Daredevil(TV Series) - Review

Daredevil(TV Series)

Plot summary:
Following an accident that blinded him when he was a kid, Matt Murdock’s other senses have heightened – a curse followed by a gift. And now, as an adult, Murdock uses this gift to help those in need from the clutches of evil, acting as a lone vigilante by nightfall. He and his friend and partner in law, Foggy Nelson, just begin their careers as lawyers. And through their first case, they acquire a secretary, who was initially their client, and together, they take on the task to take down a major crime syndicate in their city, lead by a mysterious man. And as they do so, Murdock pursues the same man, as a vigilante, taking down his syndicate piece by piece.

Review:
The story introduces us to Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, and his tragic past. Murdock, even at a young age, was a hero – a boy who was exposed to toxic chemicals which robbed him of his sight, all because he wanted to save an old man. His character is shown to be kind and unwavering, and the type of person who cannot bear to see the good being preyed upon by evil. And then we have The Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, who’s also had a tough past, with an abusive father. A self-righteous rich man who honestly thinks he’s cleaning the city with all the evil deeds he or his underlings commit.

The cast is pretty strong – all of the main characters contributed some compelling acting. Cox and D’Onofrio, both, fit in well with their protagonistic and antagonistic roles and made the rivalry between the two all the more believable and entertaining. Cox and Elden Henson, who plays Foggy Nelson, have good chemistry in their acting as best friends, and Henson definitely does justice to his role, not to mention being the comic relief at times. Deborah Ann Woll(Karen Page), Rosario Dawson(Claire Temple), Vondie Curtis-Hall(Ben Urich), and Toby Leonard Moore(James Wesley), all present noteworthy acting as well in their roles.

The action is fantastic. It’s fast, bloody, and brutal, not to mention pretty vivid. And there’s a lot of interesting footwork mixed in the combat, along with some stunts. And of course then there’s Murdock’s impeccable aim when it comes to throwing things at assailants. The settings are brilliantly done, especially for the action scenes – bringing in darker and or limited-spaced backgrounds to make it more interesting. That, together with the music, blends well. And I personally love the main theme music of Daredevil. Murdock’s costumes were pretty cool, from the initial stealthy full-black outfit to the latter armoured red and black Daredevil costume. This series, for a couple of brief moments, gives the messages that all we can do is move on, despite what life has brought unto us, and to reshuffle the cards that life has dealt us. I loved watching this. It’s pretty interesting story.
