Review:
Sleepy Hollow has a pretty strong cast – the main characters
that the story revolves around are portrayed well by their respective actors
and actresses. Considering Ichabod Crane’s character; the soldier from a bygone
age awoken once again to an unfamiliar time; Tom Mison plays his role
brilliantly as his character struggles to learn the ways of the modern world
whilst on his perilous quest to end a great evil. And Nicole Beharie takes on
the role of Abigail Mills, the lieutenant who is learning to understand this
new world of nightmares that have come to life – and which she has been
introduced to. Nicole Beharie meets these aspects of her character well,
delivering some convincing acting. There’s Lyndie Greenwood, as Jenny Mills –
Abbie’s sister who have had a harder past compared to Abbie after they both
witnessed an incomprehensible incident as children. Then there’s Katia Winter,
who stars as Katrina Crane – Ichabod’s wife, Orlando Jones, who plays Captain
Frank Irving, and John Noble, who portrays Henry Parish – The Sin Eater. Collectively, they all hit the mark in their
performances, from the serious and suspenseful scenes to the dramatic and
emotional scenes.
The plot is fantastic and very interesting, packed with some
brilliant twists and backed by some good dialogues. And the storyline keeps
getting all the more riveting as new monsters and obstacles pop-up, increasing
the level of perils that the main characters have to face. I personally like
the older style of Ichabod’s speech, as it should be, considering his character
– it’s interesting to listen to and adds to the drama that unfolds within the
story. The suspense is built up well when needed, and the music assists well in
delivering its effects even more. And I love the theme music – that’s
well-composed to meet with the eerie, sinister, and mysterious nature of the
series. The visual effects are really good too, on the other hand. Plus the
lighting variations also fit in well with the differing scenes, and blends
well, especially in the darker settings. This series definitely keeps you glued
to it.
