Central Intelligence
Plot summary:
Calvin Joyner(Kevin Hart), once
the most famous student in highschool, now works as an accountant – a job which
he is good at, but hates. As his highschool reunion nears, Calvin is met by Bob
Stone(Dwayne Johnson), formerly known as Robbie Weirdicht – a friend from
highschool who was constantly bullied for being obese – through Facebook. After
having a night out, Bob requests Calvin to help him with his payroll account,
which has some issues. The payroll turns out to be an auction site, which Bob
denies to know anything about. The next day, Joyner is approached by CIA agents
looking for Stone, who they explain to be a fugitive wanted for murder and
treason, and has highly classified state secrets in his possession. Soon after,
Joyner is dragged into a world of international espionage, and is on the run
from the CIA with a man who may or may not be a delusional psychopath.
Review:
Coming to the acting, Dwayne
Johnson and Kevin Hart were brilliant in delivering some good laughs. Dwayne Johnson,
with his merry and chucklesome character pulls off somewhat ludicrous acts
throughout the movie, making serious situations pretty funny. Johnson meets the
details well in juxtaposing his character’s cheerful and somewhat silly side
with the tough and intimidating CIA agent side. Kevin Hart’s portrayal is
well-done as well, in bringing out the guy who misses his glory days and feels
like he is a failure in the present, and in being the at times co-operative and
at times uncooperative accomplice who’s terrified and in way over his head.
The story was good, albeit having
a few plotholes. But it can be overlooked due to the hilarity this movie brings
– Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson have paired well to accomplish that. The
dialogues were good and brought in some good humour at times. And the music was
great, switching between groovy and suspenseful themes. The action was good,
and it was mixed in with some hilarity on some occasions. Aside from some
small issues, as mentioned before, this is one comedy you’d definitely find
interesting and fun to watch.
