Warcraft - Review

Warcraft

Plot summary:
Draenor, the world of the orcs is dying. An orc named Gul’dan promises to take the orcs to another realm for them to make a home of that world. Wielding a dark magic known as The Fel, Gul’dan opens a portal into the realm known as Azeroth by sacrificing other orcs he had held captive. Life essence is the price that this magic requires in order to work. A warband lead by the warchief Blackhand, along with Gul’dan go through the portal and enter Azeroth. Following their arrival, the orcs ravage all the nearby villages they can find, amassing prisoners to be used as fuel for the gate they’re constructing in Azeroth in order to bring forth The Horde – The remaining legion of orcs – to Azeroth so they can take it for their own. Anduin Lothar, brother-in-law of King LlaneWrynn, along with the mage, Khadgar, and the wizard, Medivh, who bares the title – The Guardian – set out to investigate these attacks. They meet a half-orc-half-human named Garona Halforcen, who later helps them. Meanwhile, Durotan, chieftain of The Frostwolf Clan has second thoughts about Gul’dan’s plans, and attempts to rebel against him.

Review:
Alright, let’s do this. Leeroy Jenkins! Sorry, I had to. This movie brings out an only the strongest shall survive theme, considering you have the orcs who are invading another world for the sole purpose of making it their own, by force. And even though they’re shown to follow a particular code of conduct, they are also shown to resolve problems through battles, through war.

The acting was good. Not as compelling as I would have liked it to be, at times, but still good. I could say the same for the dialogues as well. Paula Patton’s portrayal of Garona Halforcen and Travis Fimmel’s portrayal of Anduin Lothar, however, in my opinion, did stand out.

The visual effects were brilliant, both in enhancing the physique of the orc characters, and in adding their numerous accessories, both, on face and body, and not to mention the underbites. Plus the magical energy was depicted nicely, in my opinion. The costumes were good. Although I do prefer the darker armour of the Stormwind soldiers shown in the beginning of the movie, compared to the ones shown in the latter of the movie. I did, however, love the music right from the start of the movie. Plus the combat scenes were pretty entertaining to see as well. Aside from a few shortcomings, this is a pretty good movie.
